Sorry to say, one handed no look passes are used in high school basketball. Yeah, some cause turnovers, but so do the passes you look at. Summer league basketball at Putnam City this past summer it was seen quite often by several teams. A couple of our players done it last season, but they knew each others every move on that court so well and it worked for them. However, I must say you have to play team ball and know each other well on the court to be able to do this. I do know if the Bluejays expect to go far this season, they are going to have to step it up if they want to compete with the best teams. If we don't we are going to be left behind. The whole team have got to stop missing simple, simple layups and have got to get better at free throws. I stopped counting all the easy layups missed Tuesday night.
Is Chaunsey the only one that made mistakes that stick in your head? What about the mistakes that were made when he was not even playing. He in no one is perfect. Maybe to you some of the others are. How often as adults we forget or just don't use the fundamentals of life that we were taught and we have years of experience? If we keep living, it will continue to happen, because that is just life. Don't mean we don't know them. Sometimes life get so fast paced we just get caught up and forget to use them.
I do know some of the players on this team are really close. Your comments about Chaunsey is very disturbing to them. Yes, several players have approached me about this. This will separate a team and cause distractions because they feel you keep attacking one of their teammates. Unfortunately, this can carry over onto the courts. I surely would not want to feel as if I was one of the reasons for this teams distractions.
As I stated before, I feel most of this teams scores will probably come from multiple players. It will not be like the past seasons where two people scored most of the points almost every game. It seem like when most of our players can all score well we seem to win.
Chaunsey have always had natural talent in basketball, football, soccer, baseball and track. Just ask around. Could have played anyone of these sports in high school and been good at it. The one sport he chose to go with, he didn't get the experience of playing varsity until this season. Does really well though, considering. Is it his fault, no? Will he make mistakes, yes? Is he still learning, yes? What many have had three seasons to do he is trying to master in one season.
I'm so very proud of Chaunsey. He is a very strong minded person and I'm so glad what people say about him does not bother him. Gues he got that from me. Not so sure I could have hung in there all those years though. I commend you Chaunsey.
You are still welcome to meet with Chaunsey and show him some things to do to make him better. There's always room for improvement for everyone. Will he change everything he is doing now. Probably not, long as Coach P think it's okay.
